Our studio is dedicated to teaching the modern trombone, a powerful and expressive instrument that plays a vital role in jazz, concert bands, orchestras, and contemporary music. With its rich tone and unique slide technique, the trombone offers endless opportunities for musical creativity and exploration, making it an exciting and fulfilling instrument to learn.

At our trombone studio, we emphasize helping students discover and develop their own musical voice. Whether their passion lies in the precision of classical music, the improvisation of jazz, or the energy of pop, we provide the tools and guidance they need to excel. Using innovative teaching strategies and technology, we create engaging lessons that inspire growth and confidence.

Students progress through a well-rounded curriculum, refining essential skills such as breath control, tone production, articulation, note-reading, and musical interpretation. Every lesson builds both technical mastery and artistic expression, ensuring students become well-rounded musicians.

Improvisation is a key component of trombone playing, especially in jazz and contemporary styles. We encourage students to embrace improvisation as a means of self-expression, helping them develop creativity and spontaneity in their playing.

For those interested in classical music, we explore significant works that have shaped trombone repertoire, while students drawn to jazz and pop analyze legendary performances, learning techniques that define different musical styles.

At the recommendation of a work friend, I reached out to Landon at Honolulu Music Lessons Workshop. I had always had an interest in learning how to play an instrument, but thought I was way too old to start. But, after talking to Landon, next thing I knew, I had enrolled not only my husband, but my 14 year old son and myself in a group family lesson. I do not know if I ever would have had the courage to do this without Landon's approachability and his group lesson option. When COVID hit, Landon was already was teaching online and we were able to pivot without any delays and when we moved from Hawaii to California in May 2021, we continued with the guitar lessons online and kept learning, playing and improving. Landon accommodates our frequent schedule changes and keeps us on track. My son is now playing very well, and has moved to the electric guitar lessons. He went from being embarrassed at his guitar playing, to the teenager playing songs for his friends. It not only increased his self-confidence, but expanded on his way of thinking. As for myself, a middle aged working mother, I have to say, I am thrilled to say I play the acoustic guitar now. All of this is in large part due to Landon's supportive, patient and gifted instruction. My son and I continue with lessons to this day. Landon can take you from total beginner to a true musician. We are living proof.

I started my journey with voice lessons and singing improvement eight months ago from a place of severe anxiety and unsteady foundations. I could never have imagined singing intentionally for one person alone in a sound proof room, let alone a crowd of people, but that’s where I started: in a sound proof room in front of one person. That person was Mel Kay, a brilliant music teacher in both talent and attitude. She is patient and kind, skilled at her art and inspiring that of others, and is versatile in her directions and ideas for growth. In a short time, I found myself moving from a feeling of trepidation to one of excitement before lessons because of her warm approach to teaching, and six months later I was performing on stage at a local bar! I just returned from a trip abroad where I played at a concert for about a hundred onlookers, successfully, which I never would have dreamed could be a reality I actually enjoyed living through. Though I put in the work, the only reason I was able to accomplish this dream is due to Mel’s tutelage. One of the most qualified as well as fun and creative guitar teachers in Hawaii. He's got experience from all over the world. I've taken guitar lessons from many teachers but Landon is one of my favorites. His approach has always been creative and I've learned so much in such a short amount of time. He can teach both adults and kids and seems to be able to connect with anyone. He's always been encouraging while pushing me to do even more. After studying with Landon it opened up a whole new world for me. You need to contact this guy if you want guitar lessons and your on Oahu.

Son started playing ukulele. Son then asked to learn guitar. We had a referral to Landon years ago while shopping at easy music center (we bought multiple ukuleles and guitars here). We finally made the transition to Landon. It has been a wonderful experience. Flexibility with a kids schedule, flexibility during covid, (a few zoom lessons), vacation, etc, etc, etc. We are happy, loyal customers. Since December 2020. Landon is teaching him both the acoustic guitar and electric guitar. He is very patient and supportive. I have been going to Landon for guitar lessons for almost a decade now. Starting from learning on the acoustic to eventually going to an electric guitar. He taught me all the basics that I need to know and some techniques that can be helpful. His teaching style is very easy to follow and he teaches you songs that incorporate the techniques he has taught you so that you can really get them down. If you have a song that you want to learn he can make it happen, even if he didn't know it before. I was able to learn in person and online, both work extremely well. Very flexible with schedules and figures out a time that can work for you. Overall great teacher.

I've been drumming for about 15 years and have been taking drum lessons from Scott for about a year. The past year with Scott has accelerated my growth as a drummer in technique, diversity, coordination and understanding. He has a great depth to what he knows and seemingly never-ending content he can teach. I'd recommend him to drummers of any level, whether you're just starting or already have experience.

Hans is an amazing guitar teacher! He has a great balance of challenging you while also offering lots of encouragement. I tend to be hard on myself when it comes to playing guitar and he has a way of breaking things down so it's more manageable. I also appreciate that he takes a very collaborative approach to teaching rather than having a pre-formulated lesson plan. During our first lesson, I mentioned that I always wanted to learn Bossa Nova and he immediately pulled up a song, broke down the chords, and sent me on my merry way to playing my first Bossa Nova tune. It was such a treat! Love taking guitar lessons from him and would highly recommend.

My husband and I have been taking ukulele lessons with Landon Mattox at Honolulu Music Lessons Workshop for almost two years now. We have done in-person and Zoom lessons. He is patient and supportive of us as adult learners. He keeps it fresh and interesting for us with modern and old (our era) music for us to learn. Landon also gave electric bass lessons to our daughter when she was in high school. I highly recommend him and his studio for music lessons.
