VIOLA LESSONS
Viola lessons are with Benjamin Perry who is very well versed in preparing students for ABRSM levels as well as teaching the Suzuki Method, but lessons are not limited to Classical Music only. Viola lessons can be taught in both French and English. Students are encouraged to bring music they want to learn, whatever genre. The viola is very similar to the violin, they have three strings in common and the viola has an extra lower string. It’s a little bigger too, so often what happens is young kids will start out on the violin, and after they’ve been playing for a few years (maybe when they’re 8 or 9 years old) they transition to viola easily. Viola Lessons will start off with learning about posture, and learn how to hold and play the instrument whilst staying relaxed. Once we are comfortable, and able to produce a nice tone, we’ll start learning some songs. The viola is one of the few instruments to use alto clef, so we will learn how to read it, as well as play scales, arpeggios and any theory you are interested in. If you’re learning the viola you may well be doing so for orchestra, in which case we will do a lot of playing together to really train your ears to listen at the same time as playing. If you’re learning the viola just because you love it’s lower register, that’s great too! Whatever it is you are passionate about, our instructor can help guide you along the way. Once students have learned the basics, they can join the Hawaii Youth Symphony if they are between the ages of 8 and 18. You can rent a viola for about $20 per month if you don’t want to buy one right away.
We know these aren't viola demos, they are violin demo lessons. But, they will still give you a good idea of what lesson will be like and when we get around to making viola specific demos, then we will post them at that time. Until then, Enjoy the violin demos!

At the recommendation of a work friend, I reached out to Landon at Honolulu Music Lessons Workshop. I had always had an interest in learning how to play an instrument, but thought I was way too old to start. But, after talking to Landon, next thing I knew, I had enrolled not only my husband, but my 14 year old son and myself in a group family lesson. All of this is in large part due to Landon's supportive, patient and gifted instruction. My son and I continue with lessons to this day. Landon can take you from total beginner to a true musician. We are living proof.

One of the most qualified as well as fun and creative guitar teachers in Hawaii. He's got experience from all over the world. I've taken guitar lessons from many teachers but Landon is one of my favorites. His approach has always been creative and I've learned so much in such a short amount of time. He can teach both adults and kids and seems to be able to connect with anyone. He's always been encouraging while pushing me to do even more. I have been going to Landon for guitar lessons for almost a decade now. Starting from learning on the acoustic to eventually going to an electric guitar. He taught me all the basics that I need to know and some techniques that can be helpful. His teaching style is very easy to follow and he teaches you songs that incorporate the techniques he has taught you so that you can really get them down. If you have a song that you want to learn he can make it happen, even if he didn't know it before. I was able to learn in person and online, both work extremely well. Very flexible with schedules and figures out a time that can work for you. Overall great teacher.

Hans is an amazing guitar teacher! He has a great balance of challenging you while also offering lots of encouragement. I tend to be hard on myself when it comes to playing guitar and he has a way of breaking things down so it's more manageable. I also appreciate that he takes a very collaborative approach to teaching rather than having a pre-formulated lesson plan. During our first lesson, I mentioned that I always wanted to learn Bossa Nova and he immediately pulled up a song, broke down the chords, and sent me on my merry way to playing my first Bossa Nova tune. It was such a treat! Love taking guitar lessons from him and would highly recommend.

He is patient and supportive of us as adult learners. He keeps it fresh and interesting for us with modern and old (our era) music for us to learn.
