UPRIGHT BASS LESSONS
The double bass or upright bass is the largest instrument in the Strings family, it’s bigger than you standing up! Double bass lessons can be taught in both French and English. Smaller kids sizes are also rare to find, so it’s usually when they are teenagers that kids get big enough (and strong enough!) to start taking Upright Bass Lessons. Our instructor, Benjamin Perry is well versed in preparing students for ABRSM grades as well as teaching the Suzuki Method, but lessons are not limited to Classical Music only. Students are encouraged to bring music they want to learn, whatever genre. You need a lot of strength in your hands to play the double bass, everything about this instrument is big, so most importantly, we will spend time working on strengthening fingers, stretches, posture and how to hold the instrument so you don’t get a sore back. If you are going down the jazz route we’ll learn how to pluck walking bass lines and read chord charts, if you’re into Classical music we’ll learn how to use the bow and read bass clef. Hopefully you’ll be interested in everything the double bass has to offer.
