SHAKUHACHI LESSONS
We offer shakuhachi lessons for students of all experience levels, focusing on breath control, tone production, traditional repertoire, and contemporary performance techniques. Our instructor studied with renowned shakuhachi master Chris Yohmei Blasdel, bringing authentic instruction rooted in the Japanese tradition while adapting lessons to each student’s individual goals. Whether exploring traditional Japanese music, meditation through sound, or expanding woodwind skills, students receive supportive, engaging, and personalized instruction.
Our teaching philosophy centers on helping each student discover and cultivate their own unique musical voice. Lessons are tailored to the goals and interests of each individual, whether they wish to pursue classical performance, jazz, musical theater, world music, school ensembles, or personal enrichment. Through modern teaching methods and effective practice strategies, students develop the skills needed to succeed in a wide variety of musical settings.
Students build a strong foundation in essential musical skills, including note reading, rhythm, ear training, interpretation, and ensemble awareness. Flute-specific instruction focuses on breath support, tone production, articulation, finger technique, phrasing, and musical expression. As students advance, lessons may also incorporate improvisation, stylistic interpretation, and performance skills, helping them become versatile and well-rounded musicians.
Whether a student’s goal is preparing for auditions, participating in school ensembles, exploring traditional Japanese music, or simply enjoying music as a lifelong pursuit, we provide personalized instruction that balances technical excellence with creative exploration. His goal is to inspire students to grow as and musicians while developing a lasting appreciation for the diverse musical traditions these instruments represent.
